The Glenlivet 18 YO
The Glenlivet 18 YO, 43 %
Let's take a closer look at The Glenlivet 18 YO, a long-standing whisky in the Glenlivet core range. The official blurb can be found here.
The Glenlivet has been matured in 1st and 2nd fill American oak and "ex-sherry oak" (no mention of whether these are American or European oak casks).
A bottle of The Glenlivet 18 YO will set you back NOK 795 in Norway (4994801), SEK 699 in Sweden (54301), and around GBP 75 in the UK. Those are pretty decent prices for an 18 year old these days.
Nose: Very fruity and light. Delicate maltiness. Mild notes of oranges and apples. Orange zest and a warm honey character with time.
Taste: Medium body, and soft mouthfeel. Vanilla, mild sherry notes (raisins and dried apricots), caramel and floral honey. On subsequent sips I also pick up baked almonds, some oakiness and rich toffee.
Finish: Medium long finish. Continues much as it started, but more oaky now. Dark chocolate and a hint of mint.
Comments: A very fine, classic dram.
