Talisker 2010 6 YO Provenance, 46 %
Here is a very young Talisker from independent bottler Douglas Laing. The Talisker 6 YO Provenance is a single cask release. It was distilled in November 2010 and bottled in May 2017. The total outturn was 426 bottles. It was matured in a refill hogshead.
The Talisker 2010 6 YO Provenance will be available to buy in Norway on December 15 at NOK 1019 (8111801).
Nose: Pepper, smoked sausages and a whiff of sulphur. It comes across as quite young (which it is - I know - but it does not necessarily have to prove it). Reminds me a bit of Jura or a lightly peated Ledaig - minerals, sea salt and something slightly sour. Give it time and vanilla joins the party, together with meat and vegetable broth.
Taste: Full bodied, and a bit .. strange? Very sweet, too sweet? It is a bit much, even for someone with a sweet tooth. Oh, and vanilla, wood smoke, ashes, pepper and a pinch of salt.
Finish: Medium long finish. The heavy sweetness is quite relentless. Pepper still. Soot and a drier wood smoke now. Other than that it is pretty straight forward.
Comments: This is an OK Talisker, but I had expected more.
