Stauning Peated 4th Edition

Stauning Peated 4th Edition

Time for another Danish dram, I think. Here is the Stauning Peated 4th Edition. It was distilled in 2011, matured in a 1st fill bourbon barrel, and bottled in October 2014.

Stauning do all their maltings themselves, and the peated malt is made with Danish peat.

The is sold out in Stauning's own online shop, but you can pick it up elsewhere online at around € 120.

Nose: Huh! I get strawberries! Peated strawberries! That's both fun and funny. OK, what else? Vanilla and ginger bread, mint and fresh herbs. After a time in the glass I also pick up leather and warm sand.

Taste: Rich, oily and full mouthfeel. Heavily peated with lots of dark chocolate and red berries.

Finish: Medium long and rich finish. Continues very much as it started, but that is quite OK. Maybe a touch of oakiness towards the end.

Comments: A fine, fiery dram. The peat and sweetness match each other very well.
