Statesman Finest Old Scotch Whisky, NAS, 40 %

I have a special treat for you today. Not just a scotch, but one that is both 'finest' and 'old'. Reading the label we also find that it is 'fully matured', and has added caramel colouring (E150). A handful of strong indications that this will be an unforgettable experience, wouldn't you say? But never mind all that. Every whisky is a potential dream dram until tried and tested.

I believe you can pick up this bottle on your travels at many supermarkets around Europe. It is not for sale in Norway or Sweden, but the price is said to be in the ultra-cheap range, so expect around € 15 10 or thereabouts.

Nose: Alcohol! Light caramel notes, and some vanilla. Somewhat fruity, with bananas the dominant fruit. Wet planks, flowers and maybe a hint of white pepper. Quite weak nose overall.

Taste: Thin and watery mouthfeel. Raw alcohol. It burns. There's also a lot of (artificial) sweetness here. A bit perfumy and green.

Finish: Watered down caramel sauce, mixed with pieces of overripe bananas and bits of burnt toast.

Comments: Not very pleasant, at all. Meh!
