Springbank 25 YO (2014)
Springbank 25 YO (2014), 46 %
A rather exclusive whisky on the test bench today; the Springbank 25 YO (2014). This whisky was launched in December 2014, and the official release notice from Springbank Distillery reads:
This has been matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks before being married in port casks for the final few months of maturation. It has been bottled at 46% ABV and is limited to only 1,200 bottles for worldwide distribution. The RRP of this is £350.00.
The Springbank 25 YO (2014) was released for sale in Norway today (March 6, 2015) at a price of NOK 4200 (item number 2171501). It is also available to buy in Sweden at SEK 4995 (item number 85323).
Nose (23/25): Full, rich and sugary - I imagine the sweetness here is the port casks adding their spin on the whisky. Soft peat smoke peaking around the corner, dried fruits, caramel and warm sugary sweetness front and center. Mild notes of the Springbank farmyard all around. Delicate and well integrated.
Taste (22/25): Earthy, dark, rich and complex. Caramel, port notes, sherry notes, oranges and white sugar.
Finish (22/25): Warm, lingering and just more of the goodness. The peat is more pronounced towards the end, and it takes on an ashy note. Caramel and sugary sweetness.
Balance (22/25): A fine, fine dram.
Score (89/100)
