SPEY Tenné, NAS, 46 %

SPEY TennéThis is our second review of the (relatively) new range SPEY from the Speyside Distillery. We have previously reviewed the SPEY Chairman's Choice.

This whisky has initially been matured in bourbon casks, then it has been given a 6 month finishing period in Tawny Port casks.

The Spey Tenné is currently not available to buy in Norway, but you can get it in Sweden at SEK 579 (item number 8629501). You can also buy it online at various stores at around GBP 30.

Nose (22/25): A sweet bouquet of red berries! Hmm ... is that possible? Quite a balancing act, I imagine, unless the berries are still on the branch... Rich and juicy. This is a juicy whisky. That's a bit unusual, but I do believe I like it. A cool stone cellar on a blistering hot summer day. Fresh and oh so fruity. Grapes. Acacia honey. Yum!

Taste (21/25): Silky smooth, and somewhat spicy. No, make that rather spicy. Pepper, nutmeg, ginger and licorice (not the sweet kind).

Finish (21/25): The fruits are more prominent on the finish, and the spices take a back seat. It has a warm and long-ish finish.

Balance (21/25): A well-made and balanced young whisky with a clear wine influence on both nose and palate. Well done!

Score (85/100)
