So, here we have another single malt from Romania, and Carpathian Single Malt (Alexandrion Saber Distilleries 1789). Here is the description from the official product page:
“Sourced from Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, these 200L oak barrels once previously held the ancient Cyprian wine Commandaria. This sweet dessert wine has influenced the whisky to give notes of vanilla raisin fig and a little spice its light copper colour has a sweet round lingering finish to the end. Again, this expression of Carpathian Single Malt has matured in 53-gallon 1st fill American white oak ex-Kentucky bourbon barrels for three years, before being transferred to the Commandaria barrels.”
You can get a bottle of the Carpathian Single Malt Greek & Cypriot Wine Collection - Commandaria in Norway at NOK 667 (15811701).
Nose: The aroma presents sweet, wine-like qualities, intertwined with citrus zest and exotic spices. As it breathes, vanilla and a subtle oakiness emerge, evoking imagery of damp wooden planks and a distant sawmill.
Taste: A medium-bodied experience with a spicier palate than the nose suggests. Flavors of white pepper, ginger, sweet aniseed, and cinnamon create a fizzy and playful sensation.
Finish: The finish is medium-long, with the sweetness turning darker and fruitier. Notes reminiscent of sticky toffee pudding come to the fore, followed by white pepper and traces of dry oakiness towards the end.
Comment: Nicely balanced sweetness and spice.
