Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal celebrates a milestone in our history. In 1738, only 14 years after Rémy Martin started producing cognacs, King Louis XV of France, impressed by the quality of his cognac granted him exclusive permission to plant new vineyards through an accord royal, a royal permission.

The 1738 sits between the Rémy Martin VSOP and the Rémy Martin X. O. Excellence in the core range of cognacs from Rémy Martin.

Nose: Chocolate, vanilla and toasted oak. Vinous notes. Dried fruits and a hint of cinnamon. It is light, fresh and elegant.

Taste: Medium body and rather sweet in character. The toasted oak is here as well. It is rich and creamy. Honey, dark chocolate, nuts and burnt caramel.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains quite sweet throughout. The honey, assorted nuts and burnt caramel persist.

Comment: I might not be very well versed in the world of cognac yet, but to me this is very well crafted and a solid dram, albeit slightly heavy on the sweetness.
