Another release in the Diageo Special Releases 2023 series. Oban single malt finished in ex-Caribbean pot still rum casks.

The Oban 11 YO - The Soul of Calypso is now finally available to buy in Norway at NOK 1880 (17033001).

Nose: Intense and demanding from the first sniff, it presents a floral and funky profile initially. The aroma is rather malty and estery, coming across as somewhat heavy-handed. Over time, notes of floral honey, spices, and tropical fruits join the mix, with orange zest and overripe pineapple becoming more prominent. The orange notes continue to intensify as time passes.

Taste: Full-bodied with a funky punch right in the mouth. It borders on rough, with peppery notes, an alcohol sting, and a dry mouthfeel.

Finish: Medium-long, dominated by the afterburn of spices and some lingering fruitiness. A pinch of salt appears at the end.

Comment: There might be a Calypso soul in here, but I struggle to find the Oban soul.
