Nordic Whisky #58 - Teerenpeli Distiller's Choice Portwood Finish
Teerenpeli Distiller's Choice Portwood Finish, NAS, 43 %
The Teerenpeli Distillery in Lahti, Finland, is currently working on a big expansion. An investment in excess of € 500 000 will quadruple their production capacity, taking them from 40K lpa to 160K lpa (liters pure alcohol). Teerenpeli Distillery was established back in 2002, and as such they are one of the veterans on the Nordic Whisky scene. See here for my other reviews of Teerenpeli whiskies.
Teerenpeli Distiller's Choice Portwood Finish is produced exclusively for Tallink Silja Line. It is a limited edition of 1174 bottles. This Portwood finished whisky was matured in bourbon barrels and then finished in port wine barrels.
The whisky is priced just under SEK 700 on the Tallink Silja Line ferries, as far as I can tell.
Nose (22/25): Soft and delicate sweetness. Red berries, summer fruits, vanilla and malt. A bit restrained, but nice.
Taste (22/25): Rich and full mouthfeel. Sweet - honey-like. Mild caramel, pepper, red berries and certainly a hint of port. Vanilla.
Finish (20/25): Medium long and not really developing any further. Remains sweet and fruity, with a touch of caramel.
Balance (21/25): An easy-drinking summer dram, I would say.
Score (85/100)
