Nikka Pure Malt Black

Nikka Pure Malt Black

This is a blended malt from Nikka, Japan. The other two in the series are called White and Red. They all contain a mix of single malt from the two Nikka owned distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The White (see review) had the highest content of Yoichi of the three, and is no longer produced due to low stock of Yoichi. The Nikka Pure Malt Black has an even mix of both Miyagikyo and Yoichi.

The Nikka Pure Malt Black will be available to buy in Norway starting Nov 15 at NOK 616 (3782002). You can also get it in the UK at around GBP 46.

Nose: Darker and richer than the Red (see review), but also not as playful. Fairly malty. Light oakiness.

Taste: Medium body. A bit green in character; tomato plant and a touch of herbs. Also a bit oaky with notes of wet planks.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Not a whole lot more going on. Caramel, white pepper and a light fruitiness.

Comments: Perhaps the weakest of the trio.
