Myken Værfast - Dr. Jekyll’s Nordic Series
Myken Værfast - Dr. Jekyll’s Nordic Series, 5 YO, 53.8 %
Matured in a combination of an ex-Pineau des Charentes cask (cask #16/024) and an ex-Oloroso sherry cask (cask #17/017) for a total of 5 years and 10 months.
The name “Værfast” basically means “stranded due to severe weather conditions”, and the team from Dr. Jekyll’s actually were stranded on the island for a bit when they visited to pick the casks.
Still available to buy in Norway at NOK 1250 (15857802).
Nose: Gentle wafts of creamy caramel, accentuated by hints of cinnamon and dried fruits. Bask in the embrace of sun-kissed oak, sprinkled with understated oaky spices.
Taste: Rich and full bodied. Every sip brings a playful fizziness. It's like wandering through an orchard, plucking fruits, with the earthiness of fresh vegetables underfoot, all while a delicate perfume lingers in the air.
Finish: A sustained serenade. The finale leans toward the fruity side, with less sweetness but a heartfelt welcome from orchard fruits and grapes. Vanilla makes its presence known, offset by dry oaky spices. The finale? A playful nip of white pepper and mild chili.
Comment: A surprising tapestry of flavors, expertly woven together.
