Nordic Whisky #241 - Myken Octave Symphony 2020

Myken Octave Symphony 2020, 4 YO, 47 %

Time again for some Arctic single malt whisky from Norwegian distillery Myken. This time we are treated to the 4 year old Myken Octave Symphony 2020.

The cask composition making up this limnited expression is as follows:

  • 25,9 % matured in 40 litre ex-bourbon casks

  • 41 % matured in 50-55 litre ex-oloroso sherry casks

  • 33.1 % matured in 50-55 litre ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry casks

Predominantly sherry cask matured in other words. The total outturn is 1415 bottles (50 cl).

The Myken Octave Symphony 2020 will be available to buy starting tomorrow at NOK 850 (1723002).

Nose: Cinnamon and the dry bark of a fairy tale chocolate tree. Mustard seeds. Soft oakiness. Also notes of dried fruits and PX sherry. Warm and comforting spices.

Taste: Medium body, and tempered sweetness. Quite dry in character. Dry chocolate and dry sherry. Dusty old cinnamon sticks. Night-cooled sand. The sherry casks have had a very positive influence here. A brief flash of bitterness just brings more life to the party..

Finish: Medium long finish. Cooler and sweeter now. Vanilla, dried fruits and milk chocolate. Distinct elements of cool mint and vanilla towards the end.

Comment: Symphony is an apt name as this is rich and complex for such a young whisky.

Score 86/100
