..and here is the fourth and final bottling in the brand new Nordic whisky series from Berry Bros & Rudd. The Myken 2017 - The Nordic Casks #1 was distilled 2017 and bottled 2021. It was matured in a 1st fill American Standard Barrel (cask #15), which yielded 246 bottles.

Roar Larsen, the master blender at Myken, told us this is a special cask in the fact that it was filled over a period of several months. Starting off with newmake heavily peated at 35 ppm, but also including lighter peated and unpeated newmake. In total it came out as a lightly peated whisky (around 8 ppm).

The Myken 2017 - The Nordic Casks #1 is available to buy online at around GBP 150.

Nose: Mild and cool at first sniff. Is this really well above 60 % ABV? Illegal to sell in Norway? It’s so soft. It needs time in the glass, no surprise there. It is young. But the alcohol is very well integrated. Rather green in profile. Mild and sweet wood smoke. Chocolate and vanilla Frappuccino. Dirty, white sugar.

Taste: Full bodied and not at all soft any more! Ginger, chocolate, citrus, aniseed and sugary sweet ashes. It does pack a bit more heat than I was expecting. More and more ashy chocolate. Dry-ish. Green-ish.

Finish: Medium long finish. More green notes now. Pine cones, resin, green herbs, and a mild oakiness. Chocolate and vanilla. Medicinal peat in the end, and a pinch of salt.

Comment: Two pals, Peaty and Briny, having a great time of it!

Score 86/100
