Nordic Whisky #235 - Mackmyra Privus:01 Topp Tunnor
Mackmyra Privus:01 Topp Tunnor, 3 YO, 55 %
I am taking a stroll down memory lane today as I start off my reviews of the six whiskies in the Mackmyra Privus Series. These whiskies were released for sale back in 2007 and 2008.
The Mackmyra Privus:01 Topp Tunnor was a limited release of 1000 bottles (50 cl). It was bottled on 2007-03-06. Matured in three 200 litre virgin Swedish oak casks. An unpeated expression.
Nose: Vanilla and soft oak. It certainly has a rawness to it. This is young. Clean and fruity in style. Red berries and honey with time. Tomato plant with time, as well as camphor and a slight medicinal note. It does improve significantly in the glass.
Taste: Medium body. Raw and edgy. Quite spicy but differently so. Artificial sweetener. That strange oaky sweetness I so often find when 1st fill Swedish oak has been used in maturation. Mint. Vanilla
Finish: Medium long finish. Weirdly sweet with mint and herbs. Medicinal but not in a peaty Islay way. This is more clinical for lack of a better word.
Comment: The nose does bring some promise, but the palate fails to deliver.
Score 73/100
