Macallan Edition No. 2

This special release from Macallan was released in 2016. The Macallan Edition No. 2 is a collaboration between the Macallan Master Distiller Bob Dalgarno and the three brothers behind the restaurant El Celler de Can Roca.

A combination of American oak and European oak casks have been used in creating this whisky. The official information blurb states that they have used 52 % sherry butts, 21 % hogsheads, and 27 % puncheons.

You can still buy the Macallan Edition No. 2 in Norway at NOK 949,90 (7800001). It appears to be sold out most other places.

Nose: Lots of orchard fruits. Quite spicy - with pepper, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon at the center. Vanilla for sure. Pears with a sprinkling of icing sugar. Honey with time. A light rubbery note - not unpleasant, but noticeable. It does fade with time.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Again light fruitiness, and a lot of honey. Strawberries and black pepper.

Finish: Medium long finish. There's rich vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce and even more sticky honey. Bees wax.

Comments: Started off a little so-so on the nose, but on the palate it really does grow and grow. Really yummy!
