Longrow 18 YO Limited Edition 2017 Release, 46 %
OK, computer. Time for a peaty release from Springbank distillery, Campbeltown. The Longrow 18 YO Limited Edition 2017 Release is to be scrutinized today.
This is a limited release of 4500 bottles. The whisky was bottled on 2017-04-03 after having matured in a mix of 60% refill sherry casks and 40% bourbon casks.
You can buy the Longrow 18 YO Limited Edition 2017 Release in Norway starting December 15 at NOK 1498 (8112001). It appears to be largely sold out elsewhere.
Nose: Surprisingly mild on the nose. Not particularly peaty. Mild and well rounded with vanilla and soft notes of Orchard fruits. With time the familiar farmyard notes make themselves known in the distance. I also get metal and motor oil, as well as hints of gunpowder. It's an old, iron cannon!
Taste: Medium body and an almost grainy texture. This is a whisky you can chew. Soft caramel and toffee notes mixed with that peculiar iron cannon character. The fruits are subdued, and orange is the only one I can pick out now.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Caramel and iron cannon. Sweeter now, with some added fruitiness. The cannon is loaded with ripe, red apples.
Comments: A 21-gun salute. Keep firing!
