Kyrö Wood Smoke Rye Whisky
Kyrö Wood Smoke Rye Whisky, NAS, 47.2 %
From the official product page:
“Following an old northern custom, the rye has been introduced to a touch of alder smoke in a 100-year old "riihi" barn. Alder wood tends to produce aromas that are reminiscent of campfire smoke, smoked ham, and the forrest. A rather delicate smokiness supports the rye flavours, resulting in a balanced complex whisky.”
Matured in ex-bourbon, French oak, and New American white oak barrels. This is a pre-release making way for our wider smoked rye whisky range.”
The Kyrö Wood Smoke Rye Whisky is available in Norway at NOK 714 (14969602).
Nose: A wooden barn (made from Alder wood by complete coincidence) filled with wooden (oak) crates brimful with raspberries and strawberries. The barn is now on fire. Someone is tossing sticks of vanilla and bags of black peppercorn into the fire, while lazily eating vanilla ice cream.
Taste: Full bodied and surprisingly sweet. I mean it is fairly spicy as well, with pepper being the main player, but the sweetness is profound without being overpowering.
Finish: Medium long finish (or should that be Finnish?). More of the same. Peppery and sugary. Tending towards sweet oakiness as well in the end.
Comment: Perhaps a bit too sweet, even for my sweet tooth.
