Kyrö Sauna Stories No 1 - Planteray Rum Cask Finish

Kyrö Sauna Stories No 1 - Planteray Rum Cask Finish, NAS, 50.8%

The lovely whisky nerds at Finnish distillery Kyrö has created a new series of mad experiments - The Kyrö Sauna Stories. So, apparently, they built a custom sauna for “tropical style” maturation of their Finnish rye whisky. The liquid in the casks are said to hold a steady (and rather heated) 55 55 degrees Celsius. This particular experiment was initially matured in new American oak barrels, and then finished in ex-Planteray Jamaican rum casks for an unspecified period of time. Limited to 1908 bottles.

The Kyrö Sauna Stories No 1 - Planteray Rum Cask Finish goes on sale in Norway next week at NOK 1147 (18741401).

Nose: A playful mix of pepper and subtle funk, with a mysterious, deep sweetness that lingers intriguingly in the background.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied, with a peppery profile and a light touch of funk. Ripe orchard fruits emerge, blending with that same enigmatic sweetness from the nose.

Finish: Medium-long, leaving a satisfying trail of nuts, leather, black pepper, caramel, and soft, earthy undertones.

Comment: Unusual and intriguing.
