Kinahan’s is one of those companies that produce no whiskey themselves, they source the liquid from other distilleries. They do not disclose where they buy their whiskey, but my money is on Midleton.

The product philosophy at Kinahan’s is to mature and sell whiskey where the cask dominates the aromas and taste profile. In this particular expression they have matured the whiskey in Portuguese oak (Quercus Pyrenaica) from Carvalho-Negral. The SRP in the title refers to “Special Release Project”.

This is a single cask release limited to 350 bottles.

Nose: Soft and sublime. Toasted oak. Oaky spices and tropical fruits. Rich and complex.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Lovely pepper notes, chocolate fudge, and sweet strawberries.

Finish: Long finish. Peppery and rich oakiness all the way. Deep sugary sweetness. Sweet, cold coffee.

Comment: Wow! This is great!
