I appear to really have missed out, as I am not a member of the Kilchoman Club. I must see if I can do something about that. Luckily I have still had the opportunity to try a couple of the releases exclusive to said club.
The Kilchoman 2006 12 YO The Kilchoman Club - Seventh Edition was distilled 2006-11-01, and bottled 2018-11-07. It was matured in two Oloroso sherry butts (cask#309 & 310/2006), and the result was 1313 bottles.
Nose: Deep sherry notes mixed with heavy wood smoke. Earthy vanilla and cinnamon sticks. Cocoa nibs and coffee beans. With time leather, a pinch of salt and a hint of funkiness.
Taste: Rich, sweet and oily. Entering the sherry tar pits. Peaty marzipan with a milk chocolate covering. Nuts and toasted oak. Quite malty.
Finish: Medium to long finish. More fruity now, dried fruits, orchard fruits and some citrus - quite varied in other words. Also creamy vanilla, chocolate oil (is that a thing?), peaty honey, sweet ashes and earthy cinnamon. More and more chocolate in the end.
Comment: This is an instant classic.
Score 91/100
Massive thanks to Stephen who helped me get hold of a bottle of this magic elixir.
