Kilchoman 100 % Islay 9th Edition

Kilchoman 100 % Islay 9th Edition, 9 YO, 50 %

Here is my take on the Kilchoman 100 % Islay 9th Edition. The distillery proudly labels this product “Scotland’s only Single Farm Single Malt”.

Here are the official details on this release:

Distilled from our 2007 and 2009 barley crops, the 9th edition is a vatting of 43 ex-bourbon barrels matured for over 9 years in our on-site dunnage warehouses. Bottled at 50% abv, we’ve released a total of 12,000 bottles which are due to hit shelves from September 12th, 2019.

The 100 % Islay releases are less peated than other Kilchoman products, clocking in at a medium 20 ppm, rather than their usual 50 ppm.

You can still get the Kilchoman 100 % Islay 9th Edition in Norway at NOK 1000 (1391101).

Nose: Meaty and fruity. Tropical fruits, red berries, vanilla and malt. It is peaty but not overwhelmingly so.

Taste: Rich and full from the first drop. More pronounced vanilla now. The peat is also making more “noise” as it were. The meatiness subdued and playing second fiddle to the assortment of fruits.

Finish: Medium long finish. Fruits and more sweetness now. A bit more meaty, but also a touch green on the finish.

Comment: Rock solid, as expected.

Score 87/100
