Jura Journey

Jura Journey

Jura Distillery, located on the remote Isle of Jura off the west coast of Scotland, have recently replaced there entire core range of products. They also claim that this change ushers in a new house style for Jura. I have now tasted all their new products and I must concur, they really do have a new and improved house style now.

The new series is called the Signature Series and kicks off with the no age statement Jura Journey. The other products in the series will be reviewed here over the coming week or so, and include Jura 10 YO, Jura 12 YO, Jura Seven Wood and Jura 18 YO.

The new series replaces all the old products; Origin, Superstition, Elixir, Diurachs’ Own, 16 YO and Prophecy.

The Jura Journey has been matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels.

You can buy this whisky in Norway at NOK 525 (10328701), in the UK at around GBP 36. It appears to not be available in Sweden at the moment.

Nose: Mild nose that opens with light citrus, apples, vanilla and subtle hints of smoke.

Taste: Cool and medium bodied. Mild toffee, vanilla ice cream and orchard fruits. The smoke is hardly noticeable. Soft spices that I cannot really pin down.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Soft and lightly creamy all the way. Cinnamon and a touch of green grass now.

Comments: A pleasant entry level whisky. Very easy drinking. No trace of the hard mineral character I so often found in Jura before.
