A ten year old single malt from Gotland Whisky, under their Isle of Lime brand. Matured in a single 200 litre ex-Laphroaig ex-bourbon cask (cask #8), distilled 2012-12-28, and bottled 2023-03-10. Limited to 382 bottles.

“At Gotland Whisky, we call the first eight casks “The first casks”. They were distilled over a period of a couple of months back in 2012 when everything was new and we tried to figure out how the distillery worked.”

The Isle of Lime 2012 10 YO fat nr 8 was released in Sweden on April 24, 2023.

Nose: The first sniff brings a spicy, exotic aroma with notes of menthol and wood smoke, complemented by ripe apples and leather. Over time, vanilla and tobacco leaf scents emerge.

Taste: Full-bodied and intense, with a pronounced spice and peat character. It’s surprisingly peaty for an unpeated whisky aged in ex-Laphroaig casks.

Finish: Medium to long, featuring almond paste, white pepper, and vanilla, with floral and perfume-like notes and a hint of sweet licorice. It becomes a bit mixed up and inconsistent towards the end.

Comment: A perplexing experience.
