A ten year old single malt from Gotland Whisky, under their Isle of Lime brand. 200 litre ex-Laphroaig ex-bourbon cask, distilled 2012-12-28, and bottled 2023-03-10. Limited to 382 bottles.

“At Gotland Whisky, we call the first eight casks “The first casks”. They were distilled over a period of a couple of months back in 2012 when everything was new and we tried to figure out how the distillery worked.”

The Isle of Lime 2012 10 YO - fat nr 8 was released in Sweden on April 24, 2023.

Nose: At first whiff - a spicy, exotic blend. There's a refreshing hit of menthol and a warm wood smoke essence, accompanied by the sweetness of ripe apples and a hint of leather. As it sits, it reveals more layers, with vanilla and tobacco leaf becoming prominent.

Taste: This one's full-bodied and intense. Dominated by spice and what feels like peat, it makes you question if it's really unpeated whisky aged in ex-Laphroaig casks. The peaty character seems more pronounced than you'd expect.

Finish: The finish is medium to long, unfolding with almond paste, sharp white pepper, and smooth vanilla. It then surprises with floral and perfume-like notes, alongside a touch of sweet licorice. Towards the end, however, the flavors become a bit muddled and inconsistent.

Comment: I’m confused.
