The Irishman Cask Strength

The Irishman Cask Strength

I have tasted some twenty whiskeys from Ireland over the last couple of years. Some of them have been really nice. And others have not been to my taste.

At the Cinderella Whisky Fair 2014 I got the chance to taste three whiskeys from Ireland. The first one was The Irishman Cask Strength which is a limited release of about 2000 bottles each year. It is a vatting of ex-bourbon casks. I have tasted the one that was bottled in 2013.

You can purchase The Irishman Cask Strength at Vinmonopolet at NOK 660 (item number 892801). It is not available at Systembolaget.

Nose (21/25): I like the smell of this one. At first there is some malt. Quite fruity and sweet. Then it becomes more fresh with the smell of lemon.

Taste (23/25): Very full and a lot of different spices. Then the taste evolves into something more sweet. Some caramel, I think. In the end there is lemon.

Finish (21/25): Warm and full in the end - the whiskey, I mean, not me. Some fudge.

Balance (22/25): I think this was a very nice whisky. I believe the cask strength brings an extra dimension to the nose and taste. It was rich and full. When I look back at the whiskeys I have tasted from Ireland, this is one of the best. I definitely look forward to tasting more whiskeys from The Irishman.
