A fairly new product from Highland Park today. Here’s the official blurb on the 16 years old Highland Park Twisted Tattoo:

"For the first time, we’ve married whisky matured in oak casks seasoned with Spanish Rioja wine – 153 casks in total – with whisky matured in 70 first-fill bourbon casks."

Highland Park Twisted Tattoo is available to buy in Norway at NOK 950 (10963201), in Sweden at SEK 899 (4052801), and online at around GBP 80.

Nose: Cracked black peppercorns, toasted oak and vanilla. Earthy character. Warm peat. Mulled wine and rose water. Baked red apples glazed with honey. Deep, dark and mysterious.

Taste: Medium to slim body. Not as spicy on the palate as on the nose. Here I find the peat balancing the spices. There's peppery soot, grilled ginger, roasted oranges baked apples and toasted oak. Red berries and vanilla fight for attention in the back, but do not quite succeed.

Finish: Medium long finish. It mellows out and goes for a quiet landing a bit sooner than expected. The spices have all but gone now, and we're left with hints of peppermint chocolate with a spray of rich red wine and heather honey.

Comment: I wouldn't say it is a twisted Highland Park, but a Highland Park with a slight twist. Enjoyable for sure.
