Highland Park 12 YO
Highland Park 12 YO, 40 %
I wrote about Highland Park 10 YO last Wednesday. As I told you I visited Orkney and Highland Park Distillery for the very first time.
A couple of weeks ago I tasted both the 10 YO and the 12 YO. To our big surprise we found that we have not yet shared our tasting notes on the 12 YO. About time then!
I tasted the 12 YO from a 5 cl bottle.
Highland Park 12 YO is available in Norway at NOK 499,90 (item number 12701) and in Sweden at SEK 409 (item number 531).
Nose (21/25): Vanilla and malt. The sherry notes are more present here than in the 10 YO. Prunes and raisins. Cocoa. My husband got honey on the nose, but I did not. I rarely can smell or taste honey in whisky. I do not know why it is like this, but I have heard others mentioning this as well. But: Apparently it is normal to get honey in a Highland Park whisky.
Taste (22/25): Warm and rich. Sugary at first, then vanilla caramel and oak. More sherry notes comes along, like prunes and dried apricots. Cocoa here as well.
Finish (21/25): Spicy and warm. Quite a long finish. Burnt caramel and a frizzy ginger taste. Cocoa and dark chocolate makes it a little dry in the end.
Balance (21/25): This was really a nice dram. Almost as easy drinking as the 10 YO, but has some more complexity added to it.
Score (85/100)
