Highland Park 10 YO
Highland Park 10 YO, 40 %
A few weeks back I visited Orkney for the very first time. I doubt it will be my last time. My husband and I visited both Highland Park Distillery and Scapa distillery.
I tasted the Highland Park 10 YO on Orkney and I definitely wanted to buy a bottle to take home.
Highland Park 10 YO is available in 35 cl bottles. Quite practical if you want to buy many different whiskies instead of a few big bottles. The 10 YO has matured in American oak sherry casks, a mix of first-filled and refilled casks.
Unfortunately it is not available in Norway or Sweden. It is only available in Danmark, Holland, Germany and UK. In Canada it comes as a 75 cl.
Nose (21/25): Warm and smooth. There are definitely vanilla notes here and some mild malty and oaky notes. I can also smell gentle sherry influence with plums and apricots.
Taste (21/25): Warm and rich. Plums and apricots in a spicy sauce.
Finish (21/25): A warm and spicy finish - and complex. It starts off with a lot of spices, especially ginger and pepper. Then there is burnt caramel, and it turns a bit dry. The dryness disappears and it becomes sugary. In the very end there are a hint of camphor.
Balance (21/25): A plain and easy drinking whisky.
