High Coast The First Ten Years
High Coast The First Ten Years, 10 YO, 52 %
Ten years really do fly by! Here we are with the first 10 YO release from High Coast Distillery (formerly known as Box Distillery), Sweden. This milestone release is an unpeated whisky.
The High Coast The First Ten Years was distilled 2011, and initially matured for a little over four years in 5 bourbon barrels. Then on 2015-08-24 the whisky was transferred to 17 small 55 litre ex-PX sherry casks. In addition one 200 litre bourbon barrel was added to the final vatting. Then on 2021-09-02 the whisky was bottled with a total of 2088 bottles (50 cl) the result. See the website for all the details.
You can still get the High Coast The First Ten Years in Sweden at SEK 1650 (41037).
Nose: Cool and reserved at first. Hints of raisins and nuts. With time a symphony or red berries, fudge, caramel, butterscotch, marshmallows, and citrus flavoured hard candy.
Taste: Big and bold! Wow, the nose holds back, but on the palate nothing is withheld. A wave of cool and warm (yeah, both) caramel and orange flavoured honey. Creamy vanilla. Exotic spices. Toasted oak and dark chocolate.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Luxury Belgian chocolate confectionary. Orange zest, dark chocolate and white pepper. Creamy vanilla still. Fizzy and warm sugary sweetness. Green notes of tomato plant in the end.
Comment: Congrats on the big TEN, High Coast! This is really great!
