Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, 12 YO, 46 %
It is only a couple of weeks ago I wrote about Glenmorangie Signet, which I enjoyed very much. A friend had a bottle of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and I was lucky enough to get a taste.
This is was Glenmorangie says about Quinta Ruban:
The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal. Extra maturation in these port pipes develops Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban into a voluptuous spirit with a complex balance of sweet and dry flavours and an intriguing contrast of smooth and crisp, cooling textures. Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel.
The whisky is available in Norway at NOK 599,90 (item number 4966201) and in Sweden at SEK 549 (item number 84916).
Nose (21/25): A wave of red wine at first. Then oak, dust and oranges. Then another wave of more dark sweetness with figs and dades. Rich, warm and gentle.
Taste (21/25): Smooth, warm, spices, warm apples and prunes. A hint of aceton just between the taste and aftertaste.
Finish (22/25): Rich aftertaste. Plums, blackcurrant, berries of different kinds, cardamom and cinnamon. Smooth and long.
Balance (21/25): Well balanced. I think the port finish is obvious. It gives the whisky a delicate and dark warmth.
Score (85/100)
