Glenkinchie 1992 17 YO The Manager's Choice
Glenkinchie 1992 17 YO The Manager's Choice, 58,1 %
I have only tasted two Glenkinchies before todays whisky; the 12 YO and the 20 YO.
I attended a whisky tasting at TasteNote in Sweden a few weeks ago. The last dram of the tasting was this rare whisky. A 17 YO Glenkinchie released in Diageos The Manager's Choice series.
The whisky was distilled 3 February 1992 and bottled 5 March 2009. It was matured in European Oak cask #502 which gave 528 bottles. I tasted from bottle 420.
This whisky is not available in Norway or Sweden. A quick check on the Internet shows that this particular whisky is on sale on The Whisky Exchange at GBP 174,30.
Nose (22/25): Fruity. Lots of apples and pears. Fresh with lemon, mint (lots!) and eucalyptus. Maybe some alcohol stick. It became less sharp and more grassy with water added.
Taste (20/25): Perfume. Perfume. Perfume. And then salt and fruity (apples and pears still). Cold and watery. Water did not change it noticeably.
Finish (20/25): Dry and the taste of nutshell. Oak. Eucalyptus (like the taste of the Norwegian pastilles Dent - the green one).
Balance (20/25): Complex nose. But to me the perfume was too dominating on the taste. I am very happy to get the chance to taste this whisky. And of course I will keep on giving Glenkiniche new chances!
