Glengoyne 1969 Vintage Reserve, 25 YO, 47 %

Glengoyne 1969 Vintage ReserveA golden oldie is on the test bench today. The Glengoyne 1969 Vintage Reserve was distilled 1969-07-16, just a few months after I was born. It is not very often I get the chance to try a whisky of the sane vintage as myself. They are getting quite expensive!

This whisky has been matured for 25 years (source) in unspecified oak casks. The release was limited to 2742 bottles.

You might be able to still pick up a bottle online. Just recently you could get the Glengoyne 1969 Vintage Reserve at around GBP 520.

Nose: Super delicate and fresh at the same time. It's like we are in the calm eye of a perfect storm of fruitiness (think orchard fruits). It is very rich, and at the same time it has a cool and reserved side to it. Vanilla and coconut milk.

Taste: Silky smooth and oily mouthfeel. Fruit candy and vanilla. A touch of green, herbal notes.

Finish: Very long finish. Still fruity and relatively sweet. Towards the end the herbal notes morph into old fashioned mint drops, or maybe even Vilhelmina Mints.

Comments: A fantastic dram! This is a whisky you will want to go back to - again and again. Alas my sample was only 3 cl...all gone now.

Score (90/100)
