Glenfiddich Project XX - Experimental Series 02
Glenfiddich Project XX - Experimental Series 02, NAS, 47 %
OK, so I have another experiment to present for you. A few days back I reviewed the first whisky in the new Experimental Series from Glenfiddich (see here). The Glenfiddich Project XX - Experimental Series 02 is the second release.
For this release Brian Kinsman, the Malt Master (and magician) at Glenfiddich, invited 20 whisky experts (many Glenfiddich Ambassadors as far as I can tell), to their Conval warehouse. At the warehouse they each got to choose one cask. Brian then married these 20 casks to create the Project XX release. XX of course being the roman numerals for twenty. The casks selected were 17 bourbon barrels, 2 sherry butts and 1 port pipe. You can read all the details about the project here.
The Glenfiddich Project XX - Experimental Series 02 is not yet been launched for the public in Norway and Sweden, but expect it to be available within a few weeks. You can buy this whisky in the UK at around GBP 50.
Nose: This is summer in a glass. Not a sweltering summer day (I live in Norway, so I have rarely experienced these), but a lovely, warm summer day that is just right. You relax, lean back and just enjoy. There's summer fruits here, plenty of them, and it has a rich sweetness that compliments the fruitiness. Apple, pear, orange, banana, and some darker fruit notes (dried or pickled?). A touch of sherry, and vanilla.
Taste: Rich and oily mouthfeel. Upfront it has spices and rich honey. With time also cinnamon, white pepper and some ginger.
Finish: Medium long finish. Vanilla and marshmallows, white pepper, and cinnamon. The fruitiness is gone now, but the sugar and spice make everything nice.
Comments: This is really good - especially the nose. I prefer experiment 02 over experiment 01. Hopefully there will be more experiments to come!
