GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 5
GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 5, NAS, 55,3 %
The whisky of the day was release by GlenDronach Distillery towards the end of 2015. The GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 5 is a limited release, but I find no details on the number of bottles. Previous batrches have been limited to around 12 000 bottles
The GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 5 has been matured in a mix of bourbon, Oloroso sherry and PX sherry casks.
It appears the GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 5 is sold out in Norway and Sweden, but you can still pick up a bottle in the UK at around GBP 50.
Nose (22/25): It is time for dessert! Delicious and rich chocolate mixed with dried fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg and light sherry notes. Yum!
Taste (23/25): Dark and seductive. Rich on the palate. Fruity and spicy, but most of all quite nutty. Almonds and unsalted peanuts. The sherry notes here remind me more of those of a sweet Pedro Ximenez, than a lighter Oloroso sherry.
Finish (22/25): medium to long finish. The nuts give way to more fruits - apples and pears. I also find grapes, along with raisins and dates. Lovely and warm spices all the way.
Balance (22/25): Delightful dram. If you like your sherried whiskies, but tend to go for the more balanced variety rather than the full-on sherry bombs, then this one is for you.
Score (89/100)
