Nordic Whisky #128 - Gjoleid Praksis 1.2
Gjoleid Praksis 1.2, 4 YO, 47,2 %
Here is the third new release from Arcus, under the brand Gjoleid. I have already reviewed the Gjoleid Blindpassasjeren and Gjoleid Praksis 1.1. The Gjoleid Praksis 1.2 uses the same mash bill as the other two; light malted barley, malted wheat, and malt lightly smoked using logs of alder wood.
Gjoleid Praksis 1.2 has been matured in two casks; a 200 litre fresh American oak (cask 10341), and a 200 litre 1st fill ex-bourbon American oak (cask 10336). Again it is a four years old whisky, and the label states 'almost five years old'.
You can buy a bottle of Gjoleid Praksis 1.2 in Norway at NOK 660 (6390702). It is not for sale outside of Norway.
Nose: Light and delicate. Very approachable. Reminds me a lot of Praksis 1.1, but seems a bit softer. Fruity - with apples dominating, and with a touch of citrus. Vanilla, marshmallows, ginger and malt drops.
Taste: Oily and smooth mouthfeel. Honey, vanilla, green apples, caramel, ginger and hay. Rich, oaky spiciness.
Finish: Medium long finish. Vanilla, caramel and honey all the way to the sweet, sweet finish line.
Comments: I particularly enjoyed the nose on this one. A very fine product from Arcus.
