Girvan 25 YO The Girvan Patent Still
Girvan 25 YO The Girvan Patent Still, 42 %
This old grain whisky was launched by William Grant & Sons last year. The Girvan 25 YO The Girvan Patent Still has been matured in ex-bourbon American Oak casks. It has been named after the still used in its production (see here for more).
You can buy the Girvan 25 YO The Girvan Patent Still in Norway at NOK 2395 (item number 1897201). It is not currently available in Sweden. In the UK you can buy the 'Launch Edition', limited to 500 bottles, at GBP 204. Not sure in what way the Launch Edition differs from the one I tested, other than the limited number of bottles and a slightly different label. Maybe someone out there can enlighten me?
Nose (21/25): A lot richer, fuller and sweeter than the no age statement Girvan Patent Still No. 4 Apps. Banana, pears, pineapple, citrus, vanilla, honey, old books and a dusty attic.
Taste (20/25): Vanilla, mild caramel, pepper and ginger. Quite sweet and with a delicate honey mouthfeel. A bit fruity on subsequent sips; apples and apricots.
Finish (21/25): Warm and of medium length. Spicy all the way through - pepper and ginger forming the base. Medium sweetness.
Balance (21/25): We tasted this head to head with the NAS entry level whisky in the Girvan Patent Still series, and this is far superior to the younger whisky.
Score (83/100)
