Fujimi Blended Japanese Whisky, 3 YO, 40 %

Fujimi Blended Japanese WhiskyThe Fujimi Blended Japanese Whisky is merely "Japanese". The contents is more or less exclusively distilled in Scotland, and then nationalized and made Japanese by "producer" Matsui Shuzo Distillery.

The label looks pretty and very Japanese. They are obviously aiming for the customers that cannot get enough of Japanese whisky. Also note the clever use of the number 7 on the label. You might easily be fooled into thinking this is a 7 YO whisky, but now - it refers to 7 virtues! The whisky is a non age statement whisky, but I have it on good authority that it is actually a mere 3 years old. It has been matured in American white oak casks.

The Fujimi Blended Japanese Whisky will be released for sale in Norway on Friday this week, at it will sell at NOK 589,90 (10487401).

Nose: Mildly fruity, banana sticking out. It does remind me quite a lot of an average Scotch blend. Fair enough quality, but a bit bland. With time it turns a bit more spicy.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Apples, bananas - actually, make that baked bananas. Fairly spicy - white pepper, ginger and cinnamon.

Finish: Medium long. More creamy in character now; banana cake with cream. The spices do subside and leave us with a straight fruity sweetness in the end.

Comments: Fair enough, but do not expect Japanese complexity.
