Flo og Fjære - Myken Edition

Flo og Fjære - Myken Edition, 5 YO, 50.3 %

More than 7 years ago the two Norwegian distilleries Det Norske Brenneri and Myken sent two 40 litre casks each to the other. Now these travelling casks are the basis for two bottlings - both becoming the first ever Norwegian blended malt (yes, both of them, as they are released at the same time).

Myken received two ex-sherry casks and combined these with an almost 6 year old 200 litre ex-bourbon barrel. Limited to 688 bottles.

The Flo og Fjære - Myken Edition is still available to buy in Norway at NOK 1199 (16307302)

Nose: Fruity and somewhat intense—concentrated is perhaps a better word. Over time, it reveals an exquisite bouquet of custard and creamy vanilla, complemented by assorted nuts and caramel sauce that is just shy of being burnt.

Taste: Full-bodied with initial notes of white pepper and hints of chili pepper. Rich maltiness and orchard fruits dominate the first wave, followed by base notes of dried fruits. Subtle hints of oak and cut grass add complexity.

Finish: Medium in length, vibrant and lively. Continues with white pepper, fizzy ginger, and cut grass, with orchard fruits and dried fruits sharing an intimate dance. Ends on a refreshing note of peppermint chewing gum.

Comment: The nose is sublime!
