Yellow Rose Rye Whiskey, NAS, 45 %

My first whiskey from Yellow Rose Distilling, Texas. The Yellow Rose Rye Whiskey is a high rye whiskey. The mashbill here is 95 % rye, and (although not specified) I’m guessing 5 % malted barley.

Nose: Honey, white pepper, vanilla and toasted oak. With time also deep sugary sweetness as well as green notes of tomato plant.

Taste: Medium body. Rich in pepper and tropical fruits. A little dry in character. Hints of green herbs.

Finish: Medium long finish. Still fairly peppery. More perfume now. Some grapefruit and oaky bitterness.

Comment: A nice introduction to rye whiskey.
