Nordic whisky #202 - Eiktyrne Tyn & Vin Brandy Finish
Eiktyrne Tyn & Vin Brandy Finish, 3 YO, 52.6 %
I have neglected the Nordic whisky scene for a few weeks now. M;y sincere apologies for that. I promise to pull my act together, starting with this review of a brand new Norwegian single malt from Det Norske Brenneri. This is Eiktyrne Series IV, also known as the Eiktyrne Tyn & Vin Brandy Finish.
This is a limited release of just 530 bottles (50 cl). The Eiktyrne Tyn & Vin Brandy Finish was matured in a mix of ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, small sherry cask and American virgin oak cask. It was all vatted together and finished in a fresh brandy cask (French brandy in American oak).
The Eiktyrne Tyn & Vin Brandy Finish will be launched for sale on November 2 at NOK 629,40 (10488902).
Nose:Delightful, light and very approachable. Playfull sweetness with marshmallows, icing sugar, and homemade caramel pudding. There's a hint of a bicycle tire repair kit way in the back, but it works as an added spice.
Taste: Very rich and full.bodied. Spicy and fruity in character. There is an unusually deep base of spices, way down low. Maybe more like a bass than a base. On top I find notes of assorted berries, vanilla and light caramel sauce.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Continues much as it started. Perhaps a little sweeter, with notes of honey now.
Comments: Jon did it again. Darn fine for a 3 YO.
