This is a blended malt whisky with a very special history. The spirit was distilled in Scotland some time during the 1930s. Then shipped to and matured in North Africa, where it was captured by Rommel's forces. They brought the liquid to Italy where it was bottled in 1944.
OK then, how the heck do I approach this? With reverence? With dread? With high expectations? Nah, let's mix it in with other whiskies and taste it half blind. The results can be found below.
Nose: Hmm.. cat piss? Citrus, cardboard, then .. again cat piss. Vanilla. Apples sprinkled with.. cat piss. I'm sorry, that's it.
Taste: Medium body and raw mouthfeel. Jiiz, this really is raw. This cannot have been much more than three years old when bottled. It is immature and unbalanced. Watery, with weird spices, wet planks, vanilla, banana and mango.
Finish: Short finish. Even more watery. Some added banana and vanilla flavor. White pepper and more wet planks.
Comment: The story is so much more interesting than the liquid.. Not as horrid to taste as it was to nose.
Score 63/100 (it would perhaps be more fitting if I scored it 44/100?)
Sláinte!
