Chivas Brothers recently released this Caperdonich 21 YO (unpeated) as part of their Secret Speyside Collection. It has been matured in 1st fill American oak barrels.

Caperdonich Distillery was originally built as “Glen Grant #2” in 1898, duplicating its famous neighbor distillery . It was then closed just four years later. In 1965 it re-opened. New legislation prohibited two distilleries having the same name, so it was renamed Caperdonich. The distillery was finally closed in 2002, and demolished 2010.

The Caperdonich 21 YO (Batch CA/004) will be available to buy in Norway starting tomorrow, at NOK 2479 (14046401).

Nose: Fresh and fruity. Rich and earthy vanilla. Green-ish. With time more fruity.

Taste: Medium+ body. Green and herbal. Quite fresh for its age. Softly bitter and a little oaky.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Strawberries (under ripe), green apples, and white pepper. Sugary sweetness right at the end.

Comment: Well, I can certainly get used to this!
