Campeltown Loch Blended Whisky
Campeltown Loch Blended Whisky, NAS, 40 %
This is a quite young blended whisky from Springbank. It contains about 40 % malt whisky (mainly Springbank and Longrow) and 60 % grain whisky. It has no age statement, but from what I have gathered it is 5 years old.
My wife recently reviewed the Campbeltown Loch 21 YO (in Norwegian).
You cannot buy this whisky in Norway or Sweden at the moment, but you can find it in many online stores at about GBP 18-20.
Nose (20/25): Malty, earthy, peaty, salty, fruity, vanilla-y and banana-y. Y' see? It does seem a bit young on the nose, but nothing bad. Just a bit immature, a bit lacking in balance and coherence maybe.
Taste (18/25): Smooth and a bit fiery. Certainly a lot of peat, pepper and ginger here. The mouth-feel is a bit thin.
Finish (17/25): Honey and caramel adds more body, and the peat and pepper sticks around all the way through.
Balance (19/25): A bit monotonous for my taste, but nice enough dram. This might probably go better with some ice or in a long drink. A peaty high-ball could be the solution here.
Score (74/100)
