Nose: Shhh...we have to tip-toe when we approach this dram. It has been asleep for a very long time, and we do not want to give it a scare now. Let's give it peace, quiet and a while to properly wake up. Restrained and delicate sherry notes mixed with notes of old oak and chestnuts. We're talking mahogany here, we're talking Chesterfield, we might even be talking Winchester... OK, enough with the daft metaphors already. I find dried fruits, oak, wood polish, leather, and hints of gun oil and metal. Colour me impressed - no other colours needed for now.
Taste: Tending towards dry and astringent. Definitely a fair amount of oakiness, but it is not over-oaked by any means. Sweeter now than on the nose. The delicate sherry notes are here as well. Red berries, peanut shells, cinnamon, nutmeg and pickled ginger.
Finish: Very long finish. Drier and darker still. Sweet with a touch of maritime saltiness and a pinch of dried herbs.
Comments: Dreamy dram. Drammy dreams. This dram has class.
