Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PMC:01

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PMC:01, 9 YO, 54.5 %

This is the sixth release in the Cask Exploration Series from Bruichladdich, and the first time they have matured their Port Charlotte single malt whisky in ex-Pomerol red wine casks. Here is the maturation profile as detailed on the official product page:

“First filled into first-fill Bourbon barrels in 2013 and matured for 4 years. In 2017, spirit re-casked into Pomerol casks and matured for the next 5 years.”

The Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PMC:01 is available to buy in Norway at NOK 1590 (15476301), and directly from the distillery at GBP 110.

Nose: Deep and dark with a complex blend of fruity, peaty, and malty notes. Toasted oak and potato peel emerge over time, alongside softly floral hints.

Taste: Full-bodied with a spicy and dryish upfront profile. Then the fruits, malt, and peat come rolling in, creating a warm and welcoming sensation.

Finish: Medium to long, retaining the fruitiness of ripe orchard fruits and red berries. Peaty and smoky with a dry note, finishing with softly herbal and slightly briny nuances.

Comment: Richly layered and inviting.
