This is the first bottling I’ve tried from the independent bottler The Fisherman’s Retreat.

The Bruichladdich 2007 12 YO The Fisherman’s Retreat Edition No. 6 has been matured for 12 years in a Rivesaltes French oak cask. Half the cask was then bottled, yielding 249 bottles. The remainder of the cask was put in a wine cask to become edition 6.1. More on that later.

This whisky was distilled 2007-05-23 and bottled in September 2019.

Nose: Oooh, that’s different in a very good way. What a delightful mix of dark chocolate, nuts, earthy cinnamon, earthy spices and .. indeed a bone dry earth cellar. The nose just keeps developing. I am mesmerized by these dry yet soft, wine like and delicately fruity notes.

Taste: Medium to full bodied. Creamy and malty. White pepper, hints of ashes. The earth celler now also contains a small sack of coal in a corner.Vanilla and orchard fruits in the background.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Plums. Grape juice. Honey. Deep and dark, but not all that sweet. Yet, at the same time it is very sweet - layer upon layer of fruity sweetness and sweet fruitiness.

Comment: Goody Goody Gumdrops!
