Nordic Whisky #103 - Braunstein E:6
Braunstein E:6, NAS, 61,4 %
Here is the third review in a row on whisky from Danish distillery Braunstein. Today I present the Braunstein E:6. It has been matured in bourbon cask, bottled on 2014-11-03, with a total outturn of 300 bottles (500 ml each). This is again a peated expression.
There is one Edition release (E:?) every year, and I have previously reviewed both the releases from 2011, 2012 and 2013. Let me also note that the whisky itself is not as yellow as indicated by the official bottle picture here.
The Braunstein E:6 is still available to buy at DKK 1850 from the distillery shop online.
Nose: Strawberries, vanilla, leather, hints of tobacco, blackcurrant. With time more vanilla, and a deep, deep sweetness mixed with sensual wood smoke caressing the nose. Ashes with time; ashes, dark chocolate and coffee.
Taste: Super smooth and rich mouthfeel. Vanilla, peat smoke, ginger, baked apples, white pepper and nuts.
Finish: Medium long finish. Rich honey notes mixed with milk chocolate, vanilla and dry ashes - love this!
Comments: Wonderfully balanced, a lovely dram - plain and simple. This is liquid sunshine in a bottle! One of the best Nordic whiskies I have tried so far, and from Braunstein I have only had the E:4 impress more than this one.
