Here is a recent release from Swedish Distillery Box Whisky. The Box Whisky American Oak is a 5 YO whisky. It has received a main maturation in 130 litre 1st fill bourbon casks, for about four and a half years. Then it was finished for eight months in 40 litre virgin American oak casks.

This is a heavily peated dram at a whopping 45 ppm. It is a limited release of 3941 + 184 bottles. Go here for all the minute details of this release.

Nose: Delicate notes of vanilla ice cream wrapped in a blanket of smoky, dark chocolate. This really works for me! A delightful dessert-like dram. It is sweet, but light. Cinnamon, toasted oak, malt, orange marmalade, and hints of mint.

Taste: Full bodied with a half dry mouthfeel. Peppery ashes, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate. There's a hint of perfume and flowery notes. Mint and fir trees(?). The high phenol level is not making much of itself - or rather - it is well integrated.

Finish: Medium long finish. The chocolate is now mixed with rich honey and a drop or two of creamy fudge. The dry-ish notes of ashes and cinnamon are still lingering in the back.

Comments: An impressive dram in my book.
