Benrinnes 2011 10 YO (Adelphi Selection)

Benrinnes 2011 10 YO (Adelphi Selection), 53.2 %

It is not ofetn I get to review single malt whisky from the Speyside distillery Benrinnes, but here we go. This whisky was matured in a single 1st fill ex-Oloroso hogshead (cask #305246). As this is a single cask release it was limited to 273 bottles.

It has an amazingly dark mahogany color.

Nose: Warm and exotic spices. Dried fruits and earthy vanilla. Herbal notes of honey.

Taste: Full bodied and velvety in character. Green and herbal as well as fruity. We’re talking fresh orchard fruits and dried fruits. Dark chocolate with decadently rich jam filling.

Finish: Medium long finish. Very subtle and timid in style now. I really have to dig to find specific notes beyond a generally pleasant sweet fruitiness. There is some oakiness and notes of herbs and cut grass in the end.

Comment: Not really a sherry bomb, more a fruit and honey bomb.

Score 87/100
